Entry rules
New Zealandentry requirements
U.S. citizens need an NZeTA before traveling to New Zealand, even just to change planes in Auckland. It costs NZD 17 in the official app (NZD 23 on the website), plus the NZD 100 International Visitor Levy, and lasts two years. Allow 72 hours.

Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave New Zealand, and must be the passport you used for your NZeTA.
Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport is close to the limit, renew it first: see the 6-month passport rule explained.
