Passport rules

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive, with at least 2 blank pages for stamps.

Changing planes in India

All these passports: Nothing extra if you stay airside. Direct air transit within the airport for up to 24 hours needs no visa.

Arrival card

Fill in the India e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before you arrive. It is not a visa. Submit it on the official site or the official “Indian Visa Su-Swagatam” app.

Good to know

The e-Visa can’t be extended or converted to another visa once you’re in India.

Where official sources differ

Passport validity: the e-Visa site says 6 months at the time you apply; GOV.UK, the Government of Canada and the e-Visa FAQ on children say 6 months from arrival. Counting from arrival is the stricter reading.
