Entry rules

Türkiyeentry requirements

U.S. citizens don’t need a visa for Türkiye for visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must still be valid at least 150 days from the day you enter. British, Canadian, Australian and most EU citizens are visa-free too; Republic of Cyprus passport holders need an e-Visa.

Passport rules

Your passport must be valid at least 60 days beyond your permitted stay, which for a 90-day visit means at least 150 days from the day you enter.

Blank pages: 1 (GOV.UK advice).

  • EU citizens: Your passport must be valid when you arrive.

Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport is close to the limit, renew it first: see the 6-month passport rule explained.

Changing planes in Türkiye

Except for Australians, we couldn’t confirm Türkiye’s airside transit rule from an official page; these passports are visa-free anyway, so a connection that enters the country follows the entry rules.

  • U.S. citizens, British citizens, Canadians and EU citizens: Not confirmed.
  • Australians: Nothing extra if you stay airside. Türkiye’s visa exemption for Australians explicitly covers transit.

Good to know

  • Visa-free entry is for tourism; Türkiye’s foreign ministry describes British and Australian exemptions as “touristic”. Business travelers should check with a Turkish embassy or consulate.

Where official sources differ

  • Purpose of visit: Türkiye’s foreign ministry says “touristic purposes” for some nationalities, while UK and Australian advice include business and Canada says a business visa is required. Türkiye’s own wording takes precedence.
