Entry rules
Cyprusentry requirements
U.S. citizens don’t need a visa for Cyprus for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, counted separately from the Schengen area. Your passport must be valid 3 months after you leave and issued within the last 10 years. ETIAS will apply to Cyprus once it starts.

ETIAS: Not required yet. The EU has not published a start date; it says it will announce the date several months before ETIAS starts, followed by at least 6 months when it isn’t enforced strictly. What we know so far.
Passport rules
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave and must have been issued within the last 10 years, with a blank page (GOV.UK, Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
It must also have been issued within the last 10 years. Check the issue date, not just the expiry date: older passports can be valid on paper and still be refused.
Blank pages: 1.
- EU citizens: Your passport must be valid for your whole stay.
- Canadians: The Government of Canada advises 6 months after you leave, stricter than Cyprus’s 3-month rule.
Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport is close to the limit, renew it first: see the 6-month passport rule explained.
Changing planes in Cyprus
- U.S. citizens, British citizens, Canadians and Australians: Nothing extra if you stay airside. No airport transit visa for this passport.
- EU citizens: Nothing extra if you stay airside.

Good to know
- Entering through the north (for example Ercan airport) is treated as illegal entry by the Republic of Cyprus, and time in the north counts toward your 90 days.
- Cyprus is in the EU but not yet a full Schengen member: days in Cyprus don’t count toward the Schengen 90 days, and the other way round.

Where official sources differ
- Passport validity: GOV.UK and the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs say 3 months after departure; the Government of Canada says 6 months.
