Who needs it

Of the passports we cover: U.S. citizens, Canadians, Australians. British citizens and citizens of 18 EU countries can instead visit for up to 45 days without a visa; they need the e-visa only for longer stays.

How to apply

  1. Apply on Vietnam’s Immigration Department portal, evisa.gov.vn (also reachable as thithucdientu.gov.vn).
  2. Choose single or multiple entry and the port where you will enter. You must enter through the port you chose and a border gate open to e-visa holders.
  3. Pay the fee online. It is not refunded if the e-visa is refused.

If you’re only changing planes

Connecting from an international flight to a domestic flight in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City means going through immigration, so you need a visa or visa exemption even if your final destination is abroad (GOV.UK). We could not confirm the rule for purely international connections from an official page.

Fake Vietnam e-visa sites. Many sites with “vietnam” and “visa” in their name charge far more than the official fee. The official portal is evisa.gov.vn. Vietnam’s Immigration Department has also warned about fake sites for its pre-arrival information system. The official addresses areevisa.gov.vn, thithucdientu.gov.vn. How to spot a fake visa site.
